The game
“A Cold Neighborhood” is the video game created for Boing TV Italy and Spain, dedicated to the main characters of the animated series “Apple & Onion”, a Cartoon Network Studios production.
The video game was developed drawing inspiration from episodes of the series. In particular, the building and the characters were faithfully recreated in pixel art; the only distinctive feature is the winter setting with snow.
The game mechanics are very fun: the player, in the role of one of the two protagonists, Apple, has an important task: to make it all the way to the top of the building by completing the game’s 3 levels with 3 lives available.
In the first level, the player, using the right and left arrow keys, must dodge the snowballs falling from above and collect the objects and alphabet letters that make up the word “Apple.” You move on to the next level when all the letters have been collected, also earning 50 points for each letter.
Accessing the next level is equivalent to going up one floor of the building; the mechanic repeats with increased difficulty, as falling snowballs and objects become faster and faster as levels progress.
