In brief
Client: Kiratech, IT consulting company
Year: 2022
Format: browser-based advergame, accessible from the client's website
Objective: to tell the story of cloud technologies to a professional audience by letting them play
The game
“8-Bit Cloud Native” is an advergame we created for Kiratech. The video game is accessible for free from the client's website and sees the user as the protagonist in a hyper-technological environment in which they must prove to be a true “cloud native”. The challenge for the player to win is to fight the monsters of the old era using a protective shield. The player will have to protect themselves from the falling monsters of the old era: Hardware, Mainframes, Application Silos, Virtual Machines, Spaghetti Code, Lasagna Code. In addition to defending themselves, they must also recognize elements of the new era to score points, such as Pods, Containers, Docker, DevOps, Kubernetes, and Microservices. Finally, among the elements of the old and new era, the player must identify the “bonus characters” including the “butler Jenkins,” the “cat Tekton” and the “cat GitHub,” the “dog AKIT,” and the “dog Krateo.”
Objectives
“8-Bit Cloud Native” is a video game created to support the mission of the client, Kiratech, an IT consulting and company tool sales firm for corporate digitization. Through a fun video game, the user enters the IT world and gets involved.
It is a useful case for those targeting a technical audience: even complex content — containers, microservices, development tools — can become the mechanics of a game.
