“Happy Birthday Tweety”, the “Looney Tunes” video game

Thanks to our collaboration with Boing TV, we had the pleasure of creating the video game to celebrate Tweety’s 80th anniversary, the iconic "Looney Tunes" character. In this article, we share all the interesting facts hidden behind the video game “Happy Birthday Tweety.”

There are many mysteries surrounding Tweety, the iconic “Looney Tunes” character, and what amazes us most is how he has managed to celebrate 80 years without ever aging!

Thanks to the collaboration with Boing TV, we had the pleasure of creating the video game to celebrate this important birthday, and that’s how “Happy Birthday Tweety” was born.

A video game featuring the “Looney Tunes” protagonists

Creating pixel art versions of characters as famous and iconic as the “Looney Tunes” is no easy task; even the smallest detail can make a difference, and one of the main characteristics of our pixel artist Manolo Saviantoni, The Oluk, is precisely the ability to capture the tiniest details of a subject and render it in 8-bit form without losing the character’s traits.

In “Happy Birthday Tweety,” in fact, not only Tweety but also Granny and Sylvester, along with the famous birdcage with its swing, were faithfully recreated in pixel art.

The game mechanic requires the player to help Tweety jump upward by aiming and pulling down a virtual elastic band, then releasing it to launch the cheerful canary. The goal of the game is to help Tweety reach higher and higher by collecting birthday cupcakes to increase the score.

Available for free on the Boing TV website and on the Boing App, “Happy Birthday Tweety” is a video game accessible via browser and app, so it can be played anywhere.

The video game is simple and fun, and it captures all the irony that characterizes the “Looney Tunes”—just think of the frame where Sylvester flies using only two of Tweety’s feathers, or the flowerpots and bowling balls falling freely from above.

We had so much fun building this pixel art video game to celebrate such an important milestone, and we are ready to create many more featuring the legendary “Looney Tunes” and the other stars of Boing TV shows. We’re leaving you the link to go play—we already know it will be a success! LINK TO THE GAME.
