The game

”A Shot for the Environment” is the video game created as part of the Hera Group project in collaboration with Ammagamma to spread environmental culture in schools, training the Artificial Intelligence model of the free multi-utility app “The Refutologist”.

The mechanics of the video game are as follows: the student logs in through the login and then clicks on the “Play” button. He enters a screen where he is presented with a list of objects to photograph: plastic bottles, disposable plates, mayonnaise tube, disposable glasses, mozzarella bag, candy. The player is asked to choose the category of objects to photograph and once chosen, the screen opens where he can photograph and upload the photos, following the instructions for uploading the image correctly. You can, at this point, take the photo and confirm the upload of 3 images. The next screen is a real game in which images that have already been loaded appear at random. At this point, the player must choose the correct recycling bin for the displayed object from the bottom panel. The next step of the video game is the 'Quiz Time', where a multiple-choice question is asked. If the answer is wrong, an in-depth panel opens on the topic covered. In this way, the game becomes an important source of learning, allowing users to improve their knowledge on recycling.

Wanting to summarize in points, students have:

1. Took a picture with the smartphone, effectively creating an image database;
2. played with the videogame created and developed by Dinobros, interacting with quizzes and other gamified challenges to climb the ranking and, consequently, collaborate for the production of a shared knowledge system, which combines Artificial Intelligence technology with the environmental issues of separate waste collection;
3. Received sustainable gadgets (a basil plant and a sunflower plant).

Objectives

The objective of this project is to make students protagonists in the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) framework that can Recognize a rejection based on a photo, and to be able like this use the model to develop a new feature of “The Refutologist”, the free app of the Hera Group that helps to do quality separate waste collection.
